Bill Prior

Thomas William (Bill) Prior, Past President and Patron of the Central Australian Show Society (CASS). Bill Prior transferred from the Quorn Branch of Goldsbrough Mort & Company, Stock & Station Agents, to the Alice Springs Branch in March 1948. He returned to Quorn and married Dawn Vivian, then they came back to live in Alice Springs. Bill worked for Goldsbrough Mort until March 1957, then managed Hamilton Downs Station until he retired at the end of 1990. Interested in the CASS since its inception in 1960, Bill served as a council member for 25 years and Chief Cattle Steward for 12 years. He was Vice President from 1985-89, President from 1991-93 and was elected Patron in 1995. Through Bill’s work and interests, he became involved with other organisations concerned with the land. These included President of the MacDonnell Range Race Club (disbanded March 1994), a committee member of the Primary Producers Board. He was a board member of the NT Rural Collage from 1991-95. Bill was Chairman for several years and also a Life Member of the Central Australian Beef Breeders Association. After all these years of meritorious service, Bill’s work was recognised when he was awarded Centralian of the Year in 1989.
